Pop: Good Music but Worst Culture

In the world, there are two kinds of music: Popular and maniac. Pop music rise to top rank very rapidly, but also plummet down rapidly as other artists make more popular music. Especially, K-Pop just turned out to be one of the “20 Trends Sweeping the Globe” (craziness). Maniac music is the music played by real zealous people. Those often include extreme form of music such as heavy metal. Some other forms include Radiohead. Still, internet sites often describe them as alternative/punk rock because there is not yet an appropriate word found just to suit the sort of music they produce.

First of all, lets go over with the definition of ‘pop’. What is pop music? Pop is any sort of music that the ‘general people’ enjoy to listen. We should be able to dance with, and follow with . Pop can be really everything. Rachmaninov was called the pop-artist of Classic music. Some songs of heavy metal bands such as HIM and Nightwish make high ranks in the chart. Still, the most dominant include the most notorious Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, and Jessica Simpson, and other mild pop and RnB artists like Fergie and Atomic Kitten.

In any country, Pop is the most popular type of music (maybe except for Finland?) for all ages. Life of the pop artists is, exactly, the popularity. So how can a celebrity be popular in the field of pop? There are three ways: Have (or make) a pretty outlook, be good at dancing, and talk well. Singing skills are not a great option to master because you can always lip-sing in concerts and the people cheer for you. Since people not only have ears but also have eyes and brains when judging artist, singers try to look beautiful, more beautiful and cute, funnier, and would enhance their qualities in any way so more people would like them through the media. That means, not only singing, but also fashion, talk shows, and other affairs are essential for pop artists to survive. What is happening to the musicianships of these musicians? They are forgetting the real stuff. My friend Dongmin described well about the situation of K-pop artists SNSD and Big Bang. Because some famous pop artists are shifting their values from ‘good at singing’ to a ‘perfect model,’ audience started to judge other singers in the same way. That resulted out that basically to be popular, they had to focus on other values more than just pure skills to make them look good. I mean, I’m not saying visual is bad for a concert, but they are overdoing it.

Wondergirls don’t sound as good in live performances

Singers are making money from songs that they didn’t even write. Composers earn the least in the group. And in the other hand, Maniacal musicians write the music themselves. Making money out of other person’s song is a disgrace as a musician. Pop artists who just wants to be popular and rich through MTV shouldn’t call themselves as people living with music. They are just puppets of their composers. Singing is a mandatory skill when applying for a music school, either for theory or performance. That means already ‘heck’ a lot of people can sing or sing better than those pop artists. So to differentiate themselves? Visual: better face (artificial or genuine), dance, and whatever it takes to people to like.

I admire really skilled singers like Mariah Carey and Tarja. Even Britney Spears and Paris Hilton made some global hits, those kind of artists are not ‘musicians.’
